Don’t Let Me Loose in a Closing Office Supply Store

I’m going to start by either informing or reminding you that I am a nanny. I don’t work in an office. I’m not even some type of freelancer who does office work at Starbucks. I watch children for a living. And yet, I spent fifty dollars at the Office Depot that is closing and has everything on sale this weekend.

That’s a full set of Sharpie pens, a bunch of felt tip pens, two different kinds of Post-its, some book tabs, and some electrical tape. So they are things that are necessary. Sort of. Still probably a little overboard.

The Christmas Project Curse

I swear, there has to be some sort of curse that falls on a project as soon as you decide it needs to be finished on or for Christmas. A project that would normally take a week ends up a taking four, or anything that can possibly go wrong will.

I was reading Cassy’s post about her husband’s sweater she wanted to finish on Christmas and all that had gone wrong and that made me think of all the projects I set out to create for Christmas. One of which is currently resting beside me, still on the needles, because two balls of yarn arrived a week after Christmas. But that’s a story for next week.

This Christmas I had to scrap one project, barely scraped two others together, and gave an IOU on the aforementioned one still on the needles. I only had one present ready a week in advance, and that was because it was one I was supposed to have made last year.

So, perhaps this year I won’t make it a goal to get any specific project done for Christmas. Maybe it’s best to just start projects with a goal to finish eventually, but not a goal to be Christmas presents.

Christmas Present Progress

I have four presents wrapped! Granted they are (mostly) ones I bought, not ones I’m making. But, hey, I’ve bought two presents and found two others. A fifth is on the way, should arrive on Tuesday, so at least I am not waiting until the very last-minute. Black Friday hasn’t happened yet, so I’m still a bit on the early side. Plus I’m wrapping them as I get them, so I won’t be up all night wrapping them right before Christmas.

On the other side, I’ve got a hat finished, four sock ankles ready to add charted characters to (plus, you know, feet), and three stripes of a blanket that isn’t a Christmas present. I’m getting ready to cast on a pair of mitts right now. You know, unless I decide to pull out the GameBoy instead…Yeah, I’ll cast those mitts on tomorrow…
