Behind Closed Doors – Illustration Friday

Prompt: Mischief
Materials: smooth Bristol 4×4 tile, marker, pigma micron pen

I watch small children for a living. All boys. So when I saw the “mischief” prompt, I immediately thought of them running off to a room and closing a door. Because, you know, that usually indicates mischief is going on behind there. The chaos around the door is supposed to be coming from behind it.

Mightier Than the Sword – Illustration Friday

Prompt: Weapon

Media: marker, Dip pen, India ink

Paper: smooth Bristol ATC

When I saw the prompt for this week, I was watching a documentary on Netflix about online bullying. So I immediately thought of using words or a pen. Then I realized it could really go either way, words as a weapon for good or bad.

Since I’m using my brush pen for Inktober, I decided to go with my dip pen for more of a challenge.

Puddle Jumping – Illustration Friday

Prompt: rain

Media: marker, colored pencil, watercolor, Pigma brush pen

Paper: smooth Bristol ATC

For this week’s Illustration Friday, I knew I wanted to do rain boots jumping in puddles. I used my brush pen for outlining, to give myself some more practice, colored a layer of marker, then added details with the colored pencils. To give the raindrop effects, I mixed up some light blue watercolor and used a splatter technique with my fan brush.
