How Trendy of Me

I am definitely in love with the fact that the 90s are back, fashion-wise. I went to the mall a few times while I was on “vacation” last week and Forever21 felt like home with the color scheme and styles that are being displayed prominently right now. I was wandering through going, “Ooh, I used to have that in elementary school.” I was also frequently saying, “Why are they selling flannel for $20 in the middle of an LA August?” but that was more to do with the 100+ degree temperatures outside the building.

Anyway, every store I went to had major throwback appeal. And, most importantly, it all go me majorly re-interested in chokers. I have a ton somewhere in a jewelry box, but I wanted to wear one right then. And, running out of money quickly for the week, I decided to make one. Right before I went to the mall (again).

It was easy to do, and I decided to add a little wire heart, too:

In fact, it was so quick and easy that I decided to make 8 more:

You can find them in my Etsy shop, only $5 each.

I definitely like the 90s style best. Maybe I’m just stuck in my elementary school style, but I think it’s a lot of fun. Definitely going to do more like it, I think. Anyone else really excited about 90s fashion coming back?

Tiny Bug – Illustration Friday

It’s been a while since I’ve done an Illustration Friday. When I saw the word for this week was “tiny,” I immediately thought of this little ladybug on a leaf.

Marker, colored pencil, and Micron pen on smooth bristol ATC.

Follow me on Instagram, Twitter, and Tumblr.

P.S. – I’m back, and planning to switch to a Monday/Wednesday schedule. Illustration Friday posts on Mondays, whatever else on Wednesdays.

National Coloring Book Day

Apparently there is a day just for coloring books. Yesterday, if you were unaware. Like days for donuts, cakes, etc., I only heard about it on the day. I don’t think anyone could keep up with all these random days. Anyway, my skin tone marker set also happened to show up in the mail yesterday, so I thought I’d do something with them.

A few weeks back I sketched this picture:

and colored it in pencil in my drawing pad. Then I had the idea to color it in marker and watercolor as well, so I traced it in Photoshop and printed it out three times. I decided to do the colored pencil again just to have the three on the same paper in the same dimensions for comparison. And I wanted to film them all:

I think it’s safe to say that I am best at the markers. But, that is what I’ve had the most practice in, so that was fairly predictable. Watercolor was the quickest, which I wouldn’t have thought of, just because I haven’t painted much recently and thought it would be more difficult. I really ought to get a colorless blender pencil, as well.

All in all, this was a really fun project. It was nice to see how one picture can be so different in different media.
